Less than a week ago several youths also comprising the IYF Zambian Representative, Mwape Lillian Chibuye, assembled at the University of Zambia for a meeting regarding sustainable energy in schools and resilient committees. This meeting came about after this group of five active youths were selected and have been temporary recruited by the Young Volunteers For Environment Zambia (YVE Zambia) as the organizing team to promote sustainable energy in schools and the community around the country.
For the next few weeks to come the team will be in charge of a training program, which involves training eight teachers from four government schools in Lusaka and twelve members from the community. The training serves as a platform in developing knowledge among young people to be familiar with issues related to energy and sustainable development. The training will develop the participants in the areas of marketing and sales, solar and cooking products, and theory on sustainable energy and green entrepreneurship. This training will also form as a baseline to increase youth engagement and inspire young ambassadors towards this cause as new needs emerge in the community in fighting against climate change and the concerns that arise from it.
Furthermore, the team will also host a school debate, inviting several schools in a discourse on sustainable energy in Zambia.
Mwape Lillian Chibuye said: “I am excited about being part of this amazing project because it gives us a voice as youths to raise more awareness about sustainable energy among the youth communities on a national level and inspire them to take up an active role in this area.”
